Wakakirri Teacher Workshops 2007: Overview

Looking for great Arts PD sessions relevant to you and your curriculum?

Putting together a Wakakirri entry in 2007?

Attendance at a Wakakirri Teacher Workshop is a great place to start the year – whether you or your school are new at Wakakirri or if you are setting out on your 16th Wakakirri entry.

Teachers and other members of school communities will find a lot to interest them in this year’s REVISED workshop programs:

• FREE Production Information Session
• Story-Dance Beginners Workshop
• Wakakirri Arts Conference 2007

The workshops offer practical ideas, structures and activities to use in the classroom and expose teachers to experts in the field from their state.

OUTCOMES OF WAKAKIRRI TEACHER WORKSHOPS

Schools that have attended Wakakirri Story-Dance Workshops consistently achieve well in their Wakakirri items and reach finals more often than schools that don’t attend.

Evaluation of all schools in 2006 indicated that those teachers that had attended a workshop that year found the creation and production process easier and more enjoyable than those who did not attend and that workshop attendees had a greater understanding of what the judges were looking for and how the Wakakirri programs worked.

Many teachers have indicated that their attendance at a Wakakirri workshop gave them confidence to tackle large performing arts ventures and increased their skills in working with students on story based projects.

Attendance at the Story-Dance Workshop and the mini Arts Conference can be counted as required PD hours.
