Teacher Resources
We are always looking to provide teachers with the tools needed in order to put together a magical Wakakirri entry and the following resources have been compiled by a range of educational insiders who have been involved in their own Wakakirri creation or have experience in some capacity within the Australian education system.
Please ensure that you use these resources whilst keeping the rules and guidelines for Story-Dance in mind. Each resource is available for download by clicking on the corresponding link. Please feel free to give us any feedback regarding these resources.

Wakakirri Story-Dance Curriculum Link Document (Download)
This set of teacher resources provides multiple ideas for lesson plans and how to soundly and holisiticly integrate all aspects of the Wakakirri Festival into your time in the classroom. The introduction involves looking at the various aspects of Wakakirri for example the idea of making a positive impact. Following this, all aspects of a specific Story-Dance performance are analysed. Please contact the Wakakirri office to obtain a copy of the case study performance if you don’t already have it.
Detailed How-to Guide to assist you in the creation of your Story-Dance performance (Download)
This is an excellent guide for those entering Wakakirri Story-Dance for the first time or those wishing to further organise their year in relation to their Wakakirri performance. This includes some great ideas about music, lighting and choreography as well. It was created by a number of teachings using their own experiences.
The Wakakirri Story Guide (Download)
This guide provides you with helpful definitions and a case study. It also explains how to incorporate ‘story’ into your performance. This aspect of a performance is often omitted or misunderstood so this document is mandatory for everyone taking part in the festival.

Sets and Props Tips (Download)
The Wakakirri Philosophy regarding sets and props is a very simple one – ensure that they enhance the story. Remember Wakakirri is about creativity and not about big budgets. This guide provides some interesting ideas as to how to create certain sets and props. Sometimes less is more!
Lighting Tips (Download)
Lighting your Story-Dance performance can be baffling sometimes. Here is a guide that introduces basic lighting terminology, includes some visual examples and takes you through the lighting techniques that are available to you for your Wakakirri performance.
