KEY
Stage type
Proscenium arch
A stage with a front curtain and often an ‘arch’ around the
sides and top of the stage. The stage does not protrude into the audience.
Concert / Arena
A stage with no front curtain and will generally be accessed by stairs
or a ramp. The front of the stage will, at some venues, protrude slightly
into the audience.
Curtain
Not all stages have a curtain. On the concert style stages and stages
where a curtain is not used, stages changes will be made in a soft half
lighting.
Crossover
A backstage crossover is an area behind the visible stage area that allows
performers to move easily from one side of the stage to the other without
being seen by the audience.
Stage size
Unless we have noted the sizes as being ‘Acting space’, this
refers to the entire stage area. For practical use, mark up an area smaller
than this for your students to work in. Allow 1-1.5m at the back of the
stage for the cyclorama and the same at front for the footlights.
Wings
Wing space at most venues is limited (at least in terms of moving 130
performers around at the one time). Please consider this when designing
sets and props.
Hearing loop
Refers to an audio set up that those who use particular types of hearing
aids can tune into to more clearly hear the audio mix of the show. Sometimes
this needs to be booked in advance with the venue.
Disability access
All Wakakirri venues have some disability access, although the location
and nature of this varies from venue to venue. Audience members who need
special access must advise the ticketing agency when booking tickets.
Cyclorama
The white ‘curtain’ at the back of every Wakakirri stage that
reflects whichever colour lights are used. The ‘cyc’ extends
the full length of the back of the stage. Performers cannot enter through
the cyc, only from the wings on each side.
