2007 Wakakirri Prize Winners
In 2007, two prestigious National Wakakirri Prizes were presented. Altona North PS in Victoria received the Wakakirri Prize For The Environment. Altona North PS is an accredited waste wise and sustainable school who use Wakakirri as a platform to demonstrate their understanding of environmental concerns whilst spreading environmental messages to their community. Merrilands College in Victoria won the Wakakirri Prize For Cultural Diversity (sponsored by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission). Their Story-Dance item was a student run production that came about as different student groups collaborated and taught each other dance moves from their different cultural backgrounds. As a result of their participation, the students formed strong friendships with and fostered respect for many minority groups.
