City, Country & Outback Events
Wakakirri is accessible to every school in Australia. To ensure this remains so, we offer different programs for schools living in City, Country and Outback regions:
City Wakakirri
City Wakakirri is a national series of live festivals held in capital cities of Australia. The festivals are held in theatres and provide a format to bring together different schools to display and perform their work for each other and an audience of family and friends. City Wakakirri consists of a series of Heats and Finals (except in TAS, NT & QLD). Smaller versions of the City Wakakirri program are held in regional areas up the QLD coast.

Country Wakakirri
Country Wakakirri allows schools in remote areas, indeed any school more than three hours from a performance venue, to be included. These schools mail a tape of their live performance to Wakakirri and we showcase the best works online, on our TV special and at City Wakakirri festivals.

Outback Wakakirri
Major Sponsor Community Festivals for Education Engagement.
In 2008, Wakakirri will be going on tour to visit three locations in the heart of Australia: Yuendumu in the Northern Territory, Bloomfield in far north Queensland and Cunnamulla in South East Queensland.
Yuendumu Community School is a remote indigenous school 3 and a half hours north west of Alice Springs. In 2006, we visited the students in Yuendumu and through a series of workshops, developed stories to share with the rest of Australia. In 2008, we will return to Yuendumu for another week of workshops during which time we will also be able to show the students how their stories from the previous year were integrated into the Festival.
