Altona North Primary School Story-Dance Our item for 2007 is about a very important environmental issue going on in the world right now. Our item shows how pollution, industry, drought and all those other things are affecting our beautiful planet. People are taking our world for granted and not realising what we are doing to the planet. After each quick-fix attempt fails, the citizens of Earth have to find a solution before it becomes too late. What is the solution? You’ll just have to wait until performance day to find out. As usual Altona North Primary School will be using as many reusable things as possible to make our props and backdrops. At Altona North Primary School we don’t need hundreds of dollars to make our props, we can use things as simple as chip packets or drink cans. That’s how dedicated our school is to helping our environment.

The countdown for Wakakirri has begun! There is a feeling of excitement and nervousness buzzing around. In just ten weeks we have to complete our item! The next ten weeks will be jam packed with rehearsals! It will be a lot of hard work and we'll all have to work together to make our item. But isn't that what Wakakirri is all about? There's nothing like the pride of performing your item after all those weeks of hard work!

As time ticks away leading up to our performance, we are hard at work. There are many old and new faces in our group, but everyone is equally thrilled and excited at the prospect of performing our wonderful item. Our extremely dedicated helpers are busy as well, making props and costumes. Our fantastic music teacher, Mrs Angela, has given up her time to put together our amazing soundtrack. The rest of the school community is getting involved by donating item for our performance and helping make our props and backdrops. We are extremely lucky to have such wonderful students, teachers, parents and helpers at our school.

Our school prides itself on being sustainable, and Wakakirri will be no exception. As usual, we are very environmentally friendly this year! Our props and costumes are all made out of reusable items. We will be trying to teach our Wakakirri audience that it doesn't matter who you are, or where you live, everything you do affects our beautiful environment.

No matter what our results are, the time and effort we've put into our item is definitely something to be proud of!

Ashdale Primary School Story-Dance A typical day at an Australian beach. Peace and serenity everywhere and people having fun. But take a closer look at everyone working together to save our beach. For the last few weeks, the Wakakirri group at Ashdale chose their positions and characters to play. We have also come up with a few different dance routines and movements. We broke up the storyline into groups, so that for each different practice, a different group could come. This way time was spent on everyone equally. We have also used the props to practise with. Our group is really looking forward to the performance and we are very excited.

Belmont Christian College Story-Dance This is our first year in Wakakirri. Since we are a Christian School, we chose a story from the Bible. Our thrilling story is the story of Moses and his people. The story starts when Moses finds out that he is a Hebrew. All his childhood he has been raised as an Egyptian. The Hebrews are the cruel Eqyptian's slaves. God tells Moses to lead his people, the Hebrews, out of Eqypt. Many times Moses tells Pharaoh "Let my people go!" Every time Pharaoh refuses, God sends horrible plagues. The last plague (The Angel of Death) sweeps through Egypt and kills all the first born Egyptian sons, including Pharaoh's. Pharaoh is devastated and lets the Hebrews go. The Hebrews, feeling very overwhelmed with joy, pack their bags and head for the Promised Land. What will happen next to God's people? Will they survive? Will they make it out of Egypt? Wait and see. We are rehearsing well. Over the last few weeks our Wakakirri team has been measured for our costumes. Everyone has been having so much fun learning our performance. Our team leaders have been doing a wonderful job, so have the great ladies who are making our costumes and, of course, Mrs Johnson who has been making our props.
Benaraby State School Story-Dance The residents of Ring Reef discover the importance of friendship when their singing parrot fish gains some unwanted attention. Individuals discover that everybody needs a ring of friends in order to create peace and harmony.
Bilgola Plateau Public School Story-Dance Alice is trying to enjoy the day on Sydney's northern beaches. Scientists are testing the water as the factory on the hill has been emitting chemicals into the bay. Alice lies down for a snooze and is woken up by a white rabbit who leads her to the factory where the Mad Hatter is organizing a protest rally. The owner, the Queen of Hearts, has the protesters arrested. It's up to Alice and the white rabbit to speak up for the environment. We are reusing our backdrops from other Wakakirri performances
Bothwell District High School Story-Dance We have chosen to do our story about drought, as lately this has been an issue that many of us can relate to. We feel that it is relevant to us, our community and the rest of Australia. We are trying to make our story interesting by adding humor, though we are also trying to keep it realistic.

So far we have been trying to put together our story. It has been really hard as everyone involved has so many different, great ideas. It’s hard to get the ideas to fit together and it is also difficult to choose which of the ideas to use. We have been trying to make a story that is authentic to our community, but also important to the rest of Australia. We have made a great start by involving all of our secondary school.

Wakakirri is now going together great. We have been busy putting together our play and have also been busy making props and coming up with costumes. We have been pretty lucky this year as there are lots of things to re-use around the school at the moment.

We have been very busy lately putting together our performance, We have been busily rehearsing, making props and making costumes. A couple of the girls have been making their costumes out of paper mache and old sheets, a lot of effort going in there, they are doing a great job of recycling.

Wakakirri is almost here, we have been working extremely hard. We have almost got all of our costumes and props together, the rehearsing is going great. Everyone is becoming keen to perform Wakakirri. Our school has reused heaps of materials, we have hardly spent any money.

Wakakirri this year was once again a challenge, but it all managed to come together on the evening; everyone made a fantastic effort to make Wakakirri happen this year. There was fantastic support from staff, students, parents and community members. We would really like to thank all the people that provided assistance with makeup, costumes, transport and set design.

Our school came third overall on the night; we had heaps of fun and enjoyment from doing Wakakirri this year.

Bowen State High School Story-Film We are all extremely excited at the moment, planning and shooting our short film. Everyone is running around crazily but enjoying themselves. Everyone seems to be grinning from ear to ear and you can tell that they are having fun.

Bowen seems to be a very movie involved town at the moment. With the filming of "Australia" going on as we speak, the atmosphere is great and I think that everyone is more inspired to make films after being able to watch "Australia" being made.

Box Forest College Story-Singing War has caused great misery to humanity and immense destruction of the earth. We hope that compassion prevails to provide us all with a peaceful existence.

Cabramatta West Public School Story-Dance Our story is about the journey of many different cultures coming to Australia. We start in Ireland then travel through Serbia, China, Africa and New Zealand. These are the main cuturals that make up our school Cabramatta West! Our story finishes in Australia where we have become a country that is filled with peace, harmony and people are learning from each other. For the environment Cabramatta West Public School is: -Exchanging costumes with Thornleigh West Public School. We are using animal costumes that are made from old scrap carpet and other scrap materials. -Using a cardboard cylinder from wrapping paper for some props. -Using garbage bags for the grass skirts in the New Zealand section. -Using singlet tops from past educational dance performances in 2006 instead of buying new ones. -Using milk bottles to create the stems of the trees and a table. -Using recycled cans for many of our props, such as flags and a rainbow. -Borrowing an art easel from a local dance school. -The dance school we have got costumes from for the Irish girls and the African girls is from the Halloran School of dance.
Camberwell Primary School Story-Dance, Story-Telling & Story-Writing Story-Dance - The title of our story is “The Pharaoh’s Tomb”. It’s about five explorers who get trapped in a tomb full of spirits!

Story-Telling - Our title is "Lost at Camp". It’s about a group of kids who get lost on a school camp.

In Story Dance, we have been working on the sharpness of our movements, and we have all been incredibly co-operative.

In Story Telling we have been writing scripts. Some people have timed how long it takes to read their script. Soon we’ll put our official script together.

In Story Writing we have been writing our drafts for our stories. Some people are already up to typing them up.

Charles Conder Primary School Story-Dance Our story is Called Gangsterella. The main parts are the Prince, Gangsterella & the 3 step sisters We're trying to be environmentally friendly and we've started learning our moves.
Charnwood Primary School Story-Dance

The story that our school is doing for Wakakirri is ‘The Sneetches’ by Dr Suess. This story influences us to not bully and not to laugh at people’s differences.

We are trying to find ways to help the environment through our performance. So far we have been asking for things that are reusable to use in our play such as fridge boxes, material and spare face paints.

The first week of rehearsals we started off with some games so we could learn how to dramatise and show big emotions. We have also been practising how to move to the rhythms.                             
Childers State School Story-Dance Our story it is about a safari to Africa. It all starts off when a group of Australian tourists go to Africa to discover new things. They arrive in Africa on a plane and are greeted by some native African people who show them a welcoming dance.

They then start traveling through the jungle meeting animals such as elephants, giraffes, birds, a hyena, a lion and zebras. Also along the way they meet an African tribe wearing traditional African clothing. But then when all seems well they get lost! They begin to get hungry and thirsty. It doesn’t look too good for the tourists ....

We have had 3 practices, all on a Friday afternoon. In these 3 practices we have almost got our finale finished. We only have 4 beats left to do and everyone is trying their best to get the dance moves performed correctly.

Although we have only had 3 practices our Wakakirri performance is looking good already and the music sounds great thanks to Miss Wills and Jamie Paskins.

It's amazing how fast our Wakakirri is coming together! We have learnt all of our Wakakirri dance and we are now working on getting all the steps right. During our practises we have had 2 workshops, in which most of the dance was put together. Everyone is so excited about the actual performance at the brolga theatre. It's less than 2 months away so we better be practising all of the holidays and try and get the moves right.

wow!!!! its hard to belive that our Wakakirri performance is only 2 weeks and 3 days away. We have workshops, rehearsals and a performance for a community event planned. The whole Wakakirri team is looking forward to the competition and we all can't wait to show off what we've achieved.

Colyton Public School Story-Dance Rainbow Fish Colyton Public school has participated in many Story-Dances before. We are having heaps of fun making up fascinating but also funny moves for our story as our school is very creative. Most of the students work in their group of characters and make up moves. We then perform the moves to everyone so they can choose what needs to be changed. Most of our things are kinda silly!
Croydon Hills Primary School Story-Dance Our story is a story about jealousy and forgiveness. It is about a large family and the youngest daughter is favoured over the others. The other brothers and sisters get jealous and throw her down a well but she is rescued. She forgives her brothers and sister for what they have done to her and trades her special cape she was given by her parents to buy gifts for them. I am not going to tell you ALL of the details, you will have to wait and see it for yourself!!!! At Croydon Hills PS we always reuse costumes from previous Wakakirris and productions. Sometimes they just have to be slightly changed. We also get students to look for things at home like bits of wood and clothes etc. This year our "well" has been previously used as a witness box.

Dallas Primary School Story-Dance Our story starts off with traffic going to different places like school work and no where in particular. There are three different groups: the cool dudes; the mobile phones; and the mums and kids. Kayla and Matthew come in at the end and point out how all of the cars are polluting the earth and making the birds sick. Everyone begins to realise that we should walk more, rather than using cars. Our theme is important because polluting our environment is bad for us and the things we share the planet with like birds. We have tried to be environmentally friendly by recycling all of our sets and costumes from past years. Any new costumes we went to Savers and swapped our old clothes for new costume pieces.

Eastern Fleurieu - Langhorne Creek Story-Dance When Crunch the Crocodile attacks a peaceful animal community, the members decide that a ring of friendship is the best way to defeat the murderous bully - a discovery that saves the community. We had our first meeting on the 24th of May. Langhorne Creek Wakakirri people are coming to Milang and we are listening to our music and starting to think about our dance, costumes and props.

We have now had 3 joint practices. Things are coming along nicely! Everyone is playing their part really well and trying their best.

Eastwood Heights Primary School Story-Dance In the town of Whoville something is not right,
Someone is giving everyone a fright,
His name is the grinch and boy is he unkind,
Many people don't think of him as a part of man kind.
Christmas is coming,
Christmas is near,
But when the Grinch comes people run with fear.
Then along comes a girl with a heart of gold,
Unlike the Grinch's which is covered in mould.
She tries so hard to set things right,
But Whoville is still in fright.
But the love of his life might change his way.
Watch out! Were going to tell this story the Eastwood Heights way.

- Do you feel like this item has come along way?

Yes, from were we started it’s really come together. It’s really shaped up nicely and I can’t wait to perform.

- How would you describe our costumes without giving too much away?

Absolutely fantastic! They're very colourful and they really reflect our performance.

- Would you like to take this time to thank all our dance teachers and parent helpers.

Our dance teachers, Mr Rojas, Ms Kyle and especially Ms Prothero have worked so hard to perfect our performance so we can have the experience to perform in front of a large audience. Also our parent helpers have made truly stunning costumes and this performance wouldn’t be the same without them.

Edwardstown Primary School Story-Dance Our story line is about three children who are in a scouts club and did not make their service badge because they were really slack. After that they walk past Muriel’s house (who is an old disabled lady) and see that she is holding a box with rubbish in it. Without any care they put it in the dump and at that moment they see that the box splits open and lots of interesting things fall out. They discover that Muriel was a respected person when she was younger. They imagine her playing the clarinet, dancing on her wedding day and at school on her retirement day. One of the three children goes back to Muriel and asks if they can play the clarinet. Muriel says she is too old but she convinces Muriel to teach the clarinet.
How exciting! Our first Wakakirri practise for 2007 and we are already getting into various situations. There's dancing, movement and showing lots of emotion. There are many new faces in our team this year but there is also a few old ones who obviously loved the experience last year and have returned for more. We are looking forward to performing and it will be a great experience for those who are new.

We’re starting to get to know our characters and it’s a lot of fun. This year our school is emphasising on recycling and re-using props from previous years. Some of our reused props include band instruments made out of bottles and cans, thanks to one of our wonderful classes. Everyone is putting in 100% into our performance and are so thrilled to be apart of it all. We feel that we should thank Leonie Smith and Mary-Anne Liberts for making all our fantastic costumes and some of our props.We can’t wait to perform we are so excited.

It’s getting closer and closer to the heats and we are getting more anxious by the minute about our performance. We are all working extremely hard to improve our parts. Our classes are starting to build some props using recycled things such as cans, bottles, cones and other objects as well as painting them. We are so excited and we are having a lot of fun. We can’t wait to show everyone our performance.

A big thanks to Caitlin, one of our performer's older sister, who is also helping us with our choreography. We are very proud of our effort and can’t wait to show our end result to everyone.

We performed on Thursday the 9th and it was so much fun. Everyone put in 100% effort and are all very proud of how we went. We would just like to congratulate all the other schools which have already performed and good luck to all the other schools that are about to compete. We would also like to say that we are very grateful to be able to report how our Wakakirri experience has been.

Gilmore Primary School Story-Dance Amazing and exciting events are observed by a group of students as they join Isaac Newton for a journey of discovery in his time machine.

We don’t want to give away all our secrets away but we will fill you in on what’s been going on at Gilmore primary so that we can bring you a fabulous performance.

Each Monday we meet up from 2:00pm until 4:00pm to produce a wonderful performance. We have time travellers, citizens, germs, lady scientist, male scientist, Galileo, Louie paster, madam curie, soldiers and camera men.

Most importantly before we get into all the dancing we have to do warm up.

Gilmore Primary tries very hard each Monday and we all participate equally and we all contribute to choreography. We hope that we produce a wonderful performance.

Gladesville Public School Story-Dance A boy is reading about his themed school disco. To find ideas he goes online and is taken on a time warp journey, where he discovers it’s all about dancing and fun. Gladesville Public is a school in northern Sydney and this year the whole school is very excited as it has been quite a few years since Gladesville Public has competed. The students go from year 3 to year 6 and everybody is working together to make a really good Performance. Not only will it be a great opportunity for all the students and teachers, it will also be a time where everyone can have fun.

6th May - first 4 hour practise.
Everyone was hard at work trying on costumes, dancing and having fun. While the kids were practising, all the parents helped make costumes and props.

Gooseberry Hill Primary School Story-Dance

A group of friends go for a casual walk down to the clay pits. One of the friends is eating a chocolate bar and he throws it in the water. Meanwhile the girls are fishing and marroning. One of the girls gets pulled in and can’t swim so the group of friends jump in to save her and they can't get back out. The King Marron swims over to the group of friends and gives them all the power to breath under water. All the different types of animals come out including frogs, ducks and fish. We show what we are doing to the environment and how we are harming the animals and the Algae build up. The telephone rings so we get out of the water. When we get out of the water we are aware of what we are doing to the environment so we help by picking up rubbish.

Our school has been involved with Wakakirri for 4 years. This year our item shows how us littering and polluting is harming our environment up in the hills, each piece of rubbish we throw away is harming the animals in our environment.
Gwynne Park Primary School Story-Dance Our School story takes the audience on a journey through history to discover the past of the African American People. Our story centres around two star crossed teenagers from different cultures who want to get married. The Girl's Grandfather, who is a Black American and concerned for the problems they may face, takes them in his time machine to discover the prejudice experienced by his people in the past. The Journey to discover the past begins in the African Jungle in the mid 1700's and finishes in the present day. Our school is using recycled cans and metal objects to make many of our props. We have used old furniture that would have been thrown out and some other props are completely made from junk. We are researching the clothes worn in the eras in history we are covering in our story and have decided that many of our costumes will come from the OP shop. We have also contacted other schools and they are happy to let us borrow some of their old costumes. This is our first time ever in Wakakirri and we are trying to use as many re-used materials as possible. All our backdrops are old boards that have been borrowed from another school and they have let us paint them with designs that will help us tell our story.
Gymea Bay Public School Story-Dance This year Gymea Bay's Wakakirri Story Dance group is going to the circus. Follow the adventures of Rick who doesn't believe he has any talent. Will a visit to the circus help him to believe in himself? Once again, we will be re-using our back drops to help create the circus. We will also be re-using costumes and other props that have been featured in previous Wakakirris.

Heights School, The - (Modbury Heights) Story-Dance A boy and a girl from rival groups are attracted to one another, and attempt to bring their groups together. When their friends cannot accept the union, it ends in tragedy. I would like to update that we now have our main characters cast and we are half way through the performance in rehearsal. Our costumes are going to be very resourceful with everyone bringing in their own clothes and wearing those on the night.
Heights School, The (Modbury Heights) Story-Film Our story is much like the reality TV show Big Brother, but instead Big Barbie. Instead of normal people as housemates, there are fairytale princesses. Each princess has to (for their task) not repeat mistakes that they made in their fairytale. Along the way, each gets evicted for repeating their actions from their fairytales. However, because it is based around Big Brother, there is a twist at the end .... you'll have to wait and see! Everyone is working hard editing the picture.
Heights School, The (Modbury Heights) Story-Dance (Junior School) A small boy does not like his mum smoking. He tries to get her to give up after he finds out about the effect it is having on her heart, lungs and fitness.
Highgate Primary School Story-Dance At Highgate Primary School we are doing a story about sending dolls to Africa. Our story starts in a shopping centre during Christmas and there is a sense of greed and commercialism in the children's eyes. One day at Highgate Primary School an aid worker comes and tells the teachers and students about the children in Africa who have nothing to play with. Then suddenly something special happens...... The children of Highgate Primary finds out it's nice to help someone in need.
Holy Spirit Primary School, North Ryde Story-Dance In response to the many starving people in France, Queen Marie Antoinette ‘supposedly’ uttered the now notorious phrase “Let them eat cake”. We took this quote literally and wondered...what if the Queen really did feed the starving cake? This year our dance teacher Miss Cathy, has really taken the signature item literally, as she has gone and got herself engaged to a lovely man named Joe. She is proudly walking around the school wearing a beautiful diamond ring. We are all very excited for her as she is very special to us and we wish them both extreme happiness.

Many people have been measured by some of our fantastic Mums, who help design and make our costumes. We have also been focusing on re-using and recycling props and costumes.
We owe the Mums who are making our costumes a big thankyou as the costumes completed so far and the designs for the others are looking great!!

Holy Spirit were very excited to get back into the Wakakirri rehearsals after the holidays! This year our performance isn't easy but I think that our school have pulled it off very well. Holy Spirit are impatiently waiting for the Wakakirri night, when we all finally get to perform on stage and really show how all those rehearsals were worth it!!

This year we have a mixture of people who have done Wakakirri every year and others who haven't done at all, but there is no way you will be able to tell the difference as every performer is equally as great as the other.

An interview with one of the performers:
1. Are you glad to have joined Wakakirri?
I am definitally glad I joined Wakakirri. I have fun at weekly practices and I feel happy to be part of the production because altogether it looks amazing!!

2. Whats your favourite part of Wakakirri?
I don't have a favourite part of Wakakirri, I love it ALL!!! I can't wait till we do our dress rehearsal in front of everyone!!!! My costume is amazing and I love going to practices every Monday and Tuesday to dance my heart out!

3. What do you think of this years Wakakirri performance?
I really love Holy Spirit school's Wakakirri performance this year because all the dancing in it looks really good with the music!! I think it is AMAZING how much we have been reusing and recycling!!e.g. repainting our backdrops to look even better than last year!!

I have asked some students to describe Wakakirri in one word and here are some of their responses:

Holy Trinity Primary School Story-Dance This year we've chosen the story of Romeo and Juliet for our Wakakirri Story-Dance item. We have decided to adapt the story so it is about healthy food choices because our school has a healthy tuckshop policy and we do not sell foods that are high in sugar or salt. In our story, Romeo’s family own a fruit and vegetable shop and Juliet’s family own a lolly shop. The families are feuding with each other over who has the best shop. When Romeo and Juliet first meet, they do not know that they are supposed to be feuding and they don’t recognise each other as coming from the other family. However, when they see each other in their shops they each realise who the other is. What will happen when their fathers find out? Holy Trinity is a waste wise school and it is important that we make sure we are reusing as many materials, resources and boxes that we can find to make our props and costumes. The Lamp post is made out of soft drink cans that we brought in from home. We are also recycling news paper which is for our paper mache.

After many weeks of hard practice our Wakakirri is starting to come together. On most days we practice particular scenes in our groups but recently we have also managed to rehearse the complete production together for the first time. Sometimes we practice so much that everyone complains that their arms hurt from practising over and over again! Hopefully by the time we are ready our arms won’t hurt any more! Everyone is really enjoying Wakakirri so far. Our Choreography is fantastic and we are getting better at it. We are also learning to work better with other people. Only 56 sleeps to go!

Horsham Lutheran Primary School Story-Dance Our story is about a group of school children that go on a trip to the city. They go to a lot of different places like the tall sky scraper and the MCG, however, some children get into a bit of michief along the way.

The children then come home to their excited Mum and Dads and tell them all about their wonderful adventure, and the teacher is very pleased they're all safe and sound and she herself just wants to go home to bed.

Ingle Farm East Primary School Story-Dance This year our Wakakirri performance is based on a true story about Jody's (our Wakakirri teacher) Father! We have rearranged some of the story but most of it
is true.
We started our Wakakirri process by getting a group of students together to write a story. We all went off and wrote some stories then we got together and read our stories to each other. Some students eeven read their stories at assembly. We then chose our favourite story.

We have started making props and costumes for this year. We had many classes offer to help with recycling and making props. we have used a lot of plastic bags and all sorts of reused things to make costumes, we also have reused old costumes to make new ones!

We have been practicing alot and have had so many great ideas from all the students that are and are not participating in Wakakirri.

Kartwheel Kids Gymnastic Club Story-Dance Our story is set under the sea. There will be lots of color and different types of fish etc. Kartwheel Kids Gymnastic Club is not your normal school - this will be our second year in Wakakirri, and we are very excited. We don’t get to always train together as we all train on different afternoons, but our teacher Rhonda is well organised and has each group doing different segments, which will all come together in the end. Last year we won a few awards and were very proud of ourselves.

We are getting together to get started on our props, using all reused material for our props and costumes.

As you can see we have used a lot of recycled garbage collected from all the kids and had fun making our own designs for under the sea. We can’t wait to get on stage.

Wakakirri is now over and it’s all very sad, we had a fantastic time. We had lots of fun performing on the night and WON FOUR GOLD, plus more. Everyone had a fantastic time even though it was a long long day. We learnt a lot on our journey from day one, we learnt how to get along with each other and work as a group, how to recycle and reduce and reuse all types of materials and most of all how to have fun.
I would like to say a Big Thank You to our coach Rhonda Pacholke without her we would not have been able to do Wakakirri, she put a huge amount of her time into getting us ready and all our Props and costumes. We love you for that Rhonda. Thanks to Rhonda’s sister Desley Pacholke who came after work to help out as well help Rhonda with the costumes and a lot more. Thanks to Rhonda’s Mum, Mrs. Pacholke who also helped out with costumes. Thanks to Big John for helping cart all the equipment and keeping us laughing with his funny antics. Thanks to Sandra and Allisa who helped us out on the day. Thanks to all the other parents who helped out at some time and getting us to the venue.

Katoomba North Public School Story-Dance, Story-Telling & Story-Singing Our story 'Narnia In The Playground' starts off with a little girl trying to join in with some groups of kids, but she can't because no one will let her. A boy feels sorry for her but when he tries to call her back, everyone tells him "no". The bullies attack her for no reason and upset, she runs away and decides to read her Narnia book.

The little girl begins to read and gets caught up in the Narnia story where the Narnians are being bullied and turned to stone by the White Witch. In Narnia, the little girl, Lucy, learns how to stand up to the White Witch. To find out the rest of North Katoomba's story, you'll need to wait 'till the day.

The mask is made from papier mache and we think it's awesome!! It was made by Angela's nanna and we are all so lucky to have such talented wonderful parents and grandparents working to help us! We are making all of our sets from reused materials like milk bottles and cardboard election booths! Last week it snowed here and we were able to build snowmen and have snowball fights at school. Our little team is looking forward to Wakakirri so much!

Well we finally got to go on the stage and perform our items! Katoomba North only had 21 children in our team so we felt really small compared to the other schools in our heat.We saw so many great costumes and sets and now have some amazing ideas for next year! Thank you wakakirri for giving us the most amazing experience ever!

Our story telling item was first and we told a story called 38 degrees which was about bushfires and how arson is the most common cause of fires where we live. Brooke, our school captain was really nervous before we went onstage but we all talked about how much fun it was going to be and how we would help each other if anyone forgot their lines. We enjoyed ourselves and the audience laughed at the funny parts! We were amazed when we got gold awards for item from the judges!

Story singing was straight after storytelling and so we had to change really quickly backstage and race back on again. We performed a rap that we only decided to go ahead with on the day of our heat! We were pretty worried that we would muck it up and excited that we got to hold microphones! Everyone liked our item and the Wakakirri crew were all singing it by the end of the night, it was the best fun ever!

Again we had to change really quickly backstage for story dance and we all had the best time performing for such a big audience. Our mums and dads were in the front rows and it was so exciting! We won the teamwork award and everyone in our team is just so proud to have been a part of our very first Wakakirri and to have done so well. We can't wait for next year!!!

Kellyville Public School Story-Dance Our Story-dance is based on War of the Worlds. It starts off with the happy village people dancing with their couples. Then they are attacked by aliens who come down in their spaceship from Mars. They take over and release a deadly substance call Red Weed which is lethal to humans. The story-dance continues to recount how the humans cope. We have done many things in our production to help the environment. We re-used many things from previous productions such as from School Spectacular last year. From this we recycled the Alien costumes and the lighting in the Red Weeds hair. Also from a previous school production of Oliver we recycled the backdrop for this dance. Students (with the help of parents) also made most of the props from donated items such as the microscope from MDF and PVC piping, and the tripods from washing baskets and telephone book paper mache. Other props such as the teddy bear, sling shot, pram and doll were borrowed from school families. The Red weed costumes did have to be made for this production, however, they have been designed with future production use in mind.
Kimberley Park State School Story-Dance Our story is set in a magical world surrounded by beautiful landscapes and creatures such as bees, dragonflies, ants, ladybeetles, butterflies and the ugly moth who is not allowed to be accepted into the butterfly group. The other creatures adore the moth they all think she is great. But on the other side of the foodchain there of course are SPIDERS - they're mean and hungry. The spiders are lucky to catch the moth and butterflies to have a feast, but things don't turn out because the creatures help the moth and butterflies.
Kotara High School Story-Dance & Story-Telling In the past few weeks we have been doing a topic called "The plays the thing - the compulsory context of play buiding" In this topic, drama classes have been building a play.

Our drama classes in week 4 lessons were given props, costumes and then sorted in to groups. We were then given a topic in which we had to construct a play to perform to our classes. Some topics included bullying, romance, comedy etc. There were some very entertaining plays.

During week 5 we continued the same topic but we went more into genre and bullying.

Mackillop Catholic College Story-Dance Our story is called 'The Dog's Secret', it's about an art gallery with heaps of pictures. The four main pictures are dogs, and every 12 years they come out and have a party. The night of the party there was a ball in the art gallery so the dogs waited so patiently, after that the dogs got out and had their party. The next day the cleaners come out and were cleaning madly. Then a bunch of girls and a teacher, which I play, comes to look at the pictures. Then the really smart girl spots something wrong with the pictures the dogs are in the wrong pictures..........................................
We reused everything accept the face paint
The things that we reused were heaps of plastic bottles, our uniforms, spear clothes and materials from home, all our costumes, the paint on the pictures and much more. I found some pictures of the days we have raised money for our Wakakirri performance, our make days and our rehearsals, So have a look at the pictures.
Mater Hospital Special School Story-Telling (video entry) We wrote a play about a boy called Jim. It's Jim's birthday and he thinks everyone has forgotten. He doesn't realise that his sister and friends have organised a surprise party. A special message that runs through our play is 'acceptance of difference'. Sean finds himself left out of everything because he is from a different country and his family don't speak English. The other children also wrongly believe that Sean's family is involved in a gang and won't play with Sean. In the end, the children realise that Sean is just like them. He is kind and helpful and just wants to have friends. Jim's dad, Mr Bateman, learns a valuable lesson about tolerance from his own children. We had lots of fun making our film. We hope you like it. We are a hospital school based in the Brisbane area, however we are unable to participate live as many of our students are hospital patients.
Meridan State College Story-Dance

Our story is about a young orphan who is finally accepted into society.

The scene is set in an Indian marketplace, where some archaeologists find a genie bottle in an ancient tomb. At the time, the Sultan is in town. When the genie bursts from the bottle, the cheeky little devil steals the Sultan’s harem girls and wreaks havoc everywhere. The Sultan is not happy.

Finally the young orphan boy manages to charm the genie and all is well. Or so the villagers think …

This week I decided to interview Nick Jays, a snake charmer in our performance this year.

D.B: Nick, are you enjoying Wakakirri 2007 so far?
N.J: Yes!
D.B: Why’s that?
N.J: Because it is fun and dramatic!
D.B: You are a snake charmer in our production, I believe – what’s it like doing that?
N.J: Interesting because I sit there, trying to charm a stuffed toy!
D.B: Really?
N.J: Yes, quite frankly! (both laugh)
D.B: How do you think rehearsals are progressing?
N.J: Slowly at the moment!
D.B: Have there been difficulties?
N.J: Yes. Yesterday (30/04/07), the cd wouldn’t play in the rehearsal room, so we had to get a new copy. It’s little things like this that slow us down.
D.B What do you think of Meridan State College’s story for this year’s performance? Don’t give away too much…
N.J: Let me think…..it’s…interesting.
D.B: As usual. More detail?
N.J It’s interesting because…no, I’d be giving too much away.

D.B: The night of the performance is getting closer. Do you think MSC will be ready?
T.G-S: Yes! Most of the dances are simple but effective and most people already know them.
D.B: What is it like to be the Sultan in our performance?
T.G-S: Embarrassing, but fun.

Down and Out… Or Maybe Not? - It is with great regret that I inform you that Leon Cox, one of our archaeologists, has fractured his foot and will no longer be able to perform. However, you can’t keep a good man down and Leon has stayed on with the team to become our team captain. When asked about these events this was what Leon had to say: “Team captaincy is about helping people feel good about themselves and I will strive to do my best.”

Niddrie Primary School Story-Dance Niddrie's doing a performance about lifesavers as it is the year of the lifesaver. We have: beach girls; families on holidays; boogie boys; and of course, lifesavers. We are re-using a lot of things for our props. Our performance is going to be spectacular! We are doing really well rehearsing our story about Summer Heroes. We have been practicing a lot and always outside so its a bit difficult. We had a day to rehearse in a near by hall, that's a lot easier than outside, but we practiced for hours in the hall.

We just got a new sound system, its got one cordless microphone and one microphone with a cord and there's a cd player combined into the speaker, its so cool!

I have got some great photos of us practicing out side, take a look, there are great expressions on the actors' faces!

Northfield Primary School Story-Dance We chose Peace Rocks as our theme because our school is focusing on the
peace code and no bullying.

The year levels in our dance are from year
three to year seven. We have been practising very hard and having a lot of fun in the meantime. Everyone is very excited, we can't wait until the actual performance night!

We have got a few teachers helping us with the props and they are looking great so far! We are building a playground with such materials as boxes, foam and some swimming noodles. Some of the animals that we have chosen to act out are doves, toucans, monkeys, panthers and cheetahs. Our main characters are a lion and a zebra.

I think it is going well and it is helping us get along better and make new friends with people from different classes.

Oakey State School Story-Dance Vincent Van Gogh developed as an artist and discovered himself through his art. He wasn’t appreciated during his lifetime. It was only after his death, he became famous. We are hoping our students will see the value of themselves through whatever they choose. We have been working extremely hard this year for Wakakirri considering this is my first Wakakirri. The students at Oakey aren't the only ones who have been working hard, our teachers have helped us a lot making the props and costumes. We have been doing rehearsals once a week except for this week on, since we have met the four week deadline we have started doing it twice a week.

Panania North Public School Story-Dance In the process of putting together a Wakakirri item the teachers discover that every child can be a Wakakirri star. This year has certainly gone very fast. It seems as though we have just finished auditioning for the main parts in our Wakakirri performance and suddenly we are only weeks away from performing at the Hills Centre. Wow!

Anyway we had a big rehearsal from 9-3 on the last week of the holidays - getting our number polished up a bit. The stage is a different size to what we have been used to in the past so our teachers Mrs Baker and Mrs Robertson went out to the Hills Centre to measure the stage and wing space we would be working in. Then during our rehearsal they marked out on the ground where the stage came to and how much space we had in the wings to get changed (it wasn't very much and I am glad I got one of the main characters so I don't have to get changed!!)

Some of the mums came to school that day and did lots of work on our costumes and one lady whose husband is making some of our props and scenery bought them up to the school.
Park Ridge Primary School Story-Dance Our Story-Dance is called 'Mates...True Blue'. It is in three main sections... War, the Olympics and the Beaconsfield Mine Disaster. A Grandfather and his grandson look through a photo album and the scenes come to life. We're using: old wood; a huge cardboard box for the mine; the students sports uniforms; the teacher's yard duty fluro vests; the scouts slouch hats; and lots of silver tubing from 'Reverse garbage'.

Regency Park Primary School Story-Dance Our schools story starts with graffitists vandalising street buildings. The city people wear all black and white because they are BORING! Then the graffitists come in with all red T-Shirts and start "controlling" the city people. Meanwhile 1 graffitist and 1 city person(our 2 school captains) bump into each other and decide to make the city people and all the graffitists friends and make the city more colourful. We show how graffitists can make graffiti more like art and not a city domination.
Reynella East Primary School Story-Dance My school came up with a few fantastic performances but we chose only one of them. We chose ''Mother Nature and humanity'' about Global warming. We have two main characters Mother Nature-Melanie and Humanity-Darian,they are both working well together and such good actors .What would we do with out them? I love Wakakirri it's such a good thing to get schools involved in performances. Our school has a brilliant director Mr.Cowie and Mr.Munro the Prop Coordinator. They both work so hard together to make our play happen and also they are both terrific teathers. So far, every thing is working out
well. This year,we had to audition,I guess it's becoming a popular thing because we had so many people interested.

Sacred Heart School Booval Story-Dance Harmony exits between man and the environment’s destruction, in the form of ‘fire’ threatening everything. We discover that where the efforts of man fail, Mother Nature with the pink frillies, restores and regenerates.
Salisbury Heights Story-Dance Students studying Ancient Egypt are transported back through time into an adventure of intrigue and discovery. Confronted by burial celebrations, tomb robbers, priests and death gods, they complete their quest to return a lost treasure to the pharaoh. We are only a few weeks away from our big performance and we are rehearsing twice a week now. We are all getting very excited and everything is coming together really well.
Seaforth State School Story-Dance Pandemic influenza rages due to increased global warming! Scientists are baffled! Does space hold the key to our survival? Only by Nations working together can we begin to heal and save our wonderful world.

Over the past few weeks students of the Seaforth State School Wakakirri team have begun to choreograph their characters for the Wakakirri performance. All students in the team have been allocated a character. Some of these characters include aliens, robotic astronauts, stars, moons, news reporters and children from different countries around the world.

The students have learnt a number of different scenes which include the astronauts, aliens and children. A number of students in the Wakakirri team have also learnt several types of dance moves and they are improving their drama skills. Each week at rehearsals students polish the previously taught steps and then move on to learn new segments of the dance routine. After the school holidays the children will began to design and make props and costumes.

Seaholme Primary School Story-Dance Our school's Story-Dance this year is based on the award winning book 'The Incrediblly Short and Happy Life of Riley'. Some of the things we have being doing include constructing the following: a quilt for Riley made out of recycled chip packets; a packet of fries and a bottle of soft drink for a scene of play; a bouquet for a wedding; and a wall for Rileys house has been constructed out of soft drink cans.
St Anthony's Parish Primary School, Wanniassa Story-Dance Our story is about a new planet and a kid imagines all these new planets inside his head - there's a toy planet, a tech planet, an alien planet, and the riches planet. Through out all our practises we have been learning our dances, but there is 1 girl who has do it all because she is the main character and she is in every planet so she has a lot to learn and she has done extremely well with it so a big well done to her.

Backstage students have been asked to create environmentally friendly props and backdrops.

St Eugene School Story-Dance The story-dance tells the history of the St Eugene School site as told from the perspective of an old Eucalypt tree still on the site to this day.

Our teachers have been highly supportive in guiding us as we designed and created our story and dance performance.

Throughout the past few months we have spent considerable time and effort in selecting music to support our story dance. Also our story committee were busy researching the history of the Saint Eugene Site. One of the highlights of the research was the visit from the original family members who owned the site.

Many hours were spent scavenging through rubbish piles to collect cans, paper, cardboard, old for-sale signs, plastic and sticks. With this treasure the props and costumes committee designed and created sets, props and costumes to present our story dance.

The Media group have been busy keeping the school community informed in the developments of our performance. We have designed a website for all to follow our journey. 

St John Fisher College, Bracken Ridge Story-Dance Having fallen down the rabbit hole of real life, Alice discovers the perils of adulthood, and learns to not grow up before her time and to embrace her childhood innocence in a world that is forgotten.
St John the Apostle (ACT) Story-Dance Things are really starting to heat up at St John the Apostle lately as this year’s Wakakirri festival is going to be tougher than ever. St John’s has an enormous reputation in Wakakirri, and because of this fact, St Johns has decided to try to pull off an extraordinarily complex dance. Our Wakakirri performance for 2007 is based on two Indian tribes, the Cheyenne and Pawnee. Our act begins with one tribe (the Cheyenne) on stage searching for the enemy, whilst the tribal leader is bestowing his two daughters necklaces - signifying tribal importance. The necklace is our ring (the signature item for Wakakirri.) Meanwhile the enemy is coming in from the sides surrounding the Cheyenne warriors and they manage to snatch one of the Chief’s daughters. Will the chief save his daughter? You will have to watch our performance to find out.
To keep our school environmentally friendly (and to preserve the budget), we at St Johns are priding ourselves on reusing many of last year’s props, and by only using environmentally friendly or reusable materials such as feathers and milk cartons. This reduces the amount of rubbish we produce and demonstrates our respect for the environment.

Rehearsals are a highlight of our week at St John’s (and we don’t think of them as a 10 minute practice doing one quick run-through) we rehearse everyday at lunch for close to an hour going over and over the same move or scene until we can do it to the best of our ability. Wakakirri participants are enthusiastically giving up their well-earned lunch times to ensure that our performance is the best we can do. We are currently practicing each tribe separately and Mr Smith (a well known, and highly respected choreographer of Wakakirri - my teacher and our schools Wakakirri organiser) has switched his main focus from the Cheyenne tribe to the Pawnee. He too gives up a huge portion of his lunch to ensure success at the Wakakirri night.

As for progress with our Wakakirri item, we are exceedingly ahead of schedule. We have a definite plan of all the sequencing and moves of our story-dance, and have almost perfected half of the dance with the other half coming along nicely.

We are very much looking forward to the performance night. Whether we win or lose we will be proud of the time effort and hours we as a school put in!

St Johns Parish School, Mitcham Story-Arts Our school teachers from 3/4 decided to do story-art works based on discovery This is our first year of doing Wakakirri. We decided to work as a team cooperatively. Over the past 7 weeks of term 2 we have been brain storming and thinking of ideas for our story. We had a limited time to finish but now everyone is done. After this comp we will be sharing our story-arts at our art exhibition at our school. The senior students and teachers are really impressed with our story-arts. They have chosen 3 story-arts that will get sent to Wakakirri. Congratulations to all the kids at our school who have participated in this project.
St Joseph's Primary, Tweed Heads Story-Dance Everything's going pretty well at the St Joseph's wakakirri group. Everyone's been working hard and the props look great thanks to our fabulous teachers, Mrs Tilley and Mr O' Halloran - everything's in ship shape. The dance itself is looking really good and the dancers are as enthusistic as ever. We're really looking forward to performing and I think we're more than ready to.
St Joseph's School, Bulli Story-Dance A Midsummer Night's Dream, from the play by William Shakespeare At our school, Wakakirri is not just an experience to show all your talent, in one great confidence boosting performance, but also has a sport and literacy component. This year we will be the first primary school to take Shakespeare to the stage in Wakakirri. This year Stage 3 has had a whole subject based around William Shakespeare, Shakespearian time and the Globe Theatre.

In our school we are very lucky to have such supportive and dramatic teachers, as well as parents who are involved in events such as sewing-bees and set painting and prop painting. We have had auditions for main roles and selected them. We have also had some scenes choreographed and lots of practices during lunch and after school.

We believe in recycling and are able to recycle well with the help of our buddy school Smiths Hill High who have lent us their costumes from previous performances.

We always try our best and perform our part to the best of our ability. In our school, teamwork is the most important quality in Wakakirri performances, and as our teachers always say there is no I in team.

St Josephs School, Bracken Ridge Story-Dance At fund-raising event for Breast Cancer Research, celebrities gather to send a team of scientists on a journey to Antarctica. They meet rap-dancing penguins and discover a special algae which is used for a breakthrough in cancer research. We had a great start to term 2 Wakakirri. The first week we got into groups and we've started learning dance moves. On the the third week Mr Wilkie, our Principal, took our backstage and our news reporters to Reverse Garbage at West End. We got to travel in a maxi taxi.

A special thank to Miss Macdonald who has recently had some surgery. She is such a wonderful teacher and we wish her a speedy recovery.

Saint Joeys are doing great we all have our costumes and they look fabulous. Miss Mac and all the teachers are the best. We’re all hoping to do really good and I think we will.
The last dance makes us feel soooo soooo great. It’s true that the most important thing is to have fun.

Tomorrow night we have our performance. We are sooo ready for it, last night we had a dress rehearsal for our parents. It’s been a lot of fun. All our hard work is paying off.
Miss Mac and the other teachers have been the best. Mr Wilkie and Mrs Maki have been such good support.

St Margaret Marys School Story-Dance All 56 devoted members of our team have been showing their dedication. We have been giving up much of our cherished lunch time on Thursdays practicing our dance. Our dance is called the "Sacred Ring of Utopia". The story is about evil trying to prevail over the good, bringing destruction, war, and racism. Our props and materials have all been donated to us from our school community. We have all planned a fundraiser - all money from our Whacky Hair Day will go to the make up and things like that. Another thing we have been doing has been sewing and painting. Our coordinator Miss Polec has not excluded anyone in the sewing or painting so she has taught many how to sew. Also, instead of buying new clothes, we are using clothes from our own cupboards for our costumes.

To protect some of our props. We have decided to use towels for the Cape People. We are also reusing the St Vincent De Pauls Winter Appeal boxes for our wall. For cardboard which is needed for our sets and props, we have reused several boxes that we have found. Our coordinator Ms Polec has bought a big TV lately. Obviously the TV was in a box so we have used that huge box for the production of out great set.

Here is some feedback from members of our Wakakirri team:

Keisha: I've had a lot of fun rehearsing and helping with props. I'm also getting along really well with members who are participating in Wakakirri.

Paris: I have really enjoyed the Wakakirri experience and I have had a lot of fun. I'm getting along well with all the members. I've also had lots of fun being my character, which is one of the three witches. My overall experience in Wakakirri has been very good.

Maverick: My role is the Wise Old Wizard. At first, I was unable to sew but through the duration of set building, my sewing abilities have become better. Now I can even dance due to the help of our coordinator Ms Polec. My experience in Wakakirri is one I will never forget.

Tia: So far, my Wakakirri experience has been excellent. Watching our performance progress is extremely rewarding and imagining how it will even actually look with all props and costumes is spectacular, being a designer myself.

St Saviour's College, Toowoomba Story-Dance Our Story-Dance is titled 'Worlds Reefed Apart' and is an adaptation of the children's story ‘Evil under the Sea’. It tells the story of a young girl, Jess, who is pulled into the ocean by her fishing line and discovers a whole new world. She encounters many sea creatures and experiences the beauty of the reef first hand. Her journey also takes her through the horrifying devastation caused by society and Jess tries desperately to save her new found friends. We want to make some noise about the world's largest living structure - the Great Barrier Reef! Once it was ‘Imagine the reef without any colour’, now it is ‘Imagine the reef no more!’ Let’s step up Australia …everything we do, no matter where we live, affects our oceans! St Saviour’s College has raised, and is continuing to raise, awareness through our own school newsletter and the local paper, about the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling. We are building our backdrop and props from reused materials we have gathered during our waste audit and other schools are also pitching in to help us out! Through our active participation in Clean Up Australia Day, World Environment Day, collecting old mobile phones and collecting plastic bags, we are shouting from the roof tops – REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE! We have held a trash ‘n show where the whole school produced outfits and costumes made from 100% reused materials that we will use for our dance. Our school is in the process of undertaking fundraising events to raise money so we can work towards sustainable energy in our school. We also hope to hold a garage sale and initiate a ‘lights off’ event in our community. Soon we will travel to the dump to find more recycled materials….it is amazing what people throw away! Come on Australia – if we don’t stick up for our environmental heritage… who will?
Strathfield North Public School Story-Dance It starts with all these people sitting at computers - everyone gets up to leave except one girl who has computer troubles. Some viruses take her into cyberspace and she meets all different sorts of cyber people and goes to all different websites.
Stuart Park Public School Story-Dance 3 children are sitting in an audience at the circus. The ring master asks for volunteers and chooses 3 children. They are asked to hop into 3 magical rings and when they do, they disappear.

The children find themselves with: clowns; tigers; and acrobats before jumping back through the rings to get back.

They realise they are trapped as the cast whizzes around them faster and faster. The ring master is in the middle laughing and cackling. The kids eventually break away from every one and come together and put their rings together to form one big ring.

Once they jump into the big ring together they find themselves returned to their seats in the audience.

Trinity College, Blakeview Story-Dance Our story, 'Discovering the Key to Being Me' is a simple story, yet it portrays a very strong message that all the kids can relate to - INDIVIDUALITY.

Behind the scenes is where all the action is - we have already started collecting recycled materials to build props, and have gotten many parents to lend a hand with the collection of materials to be used. We plan to use only recycled material again this year as the theme of the environment is even more vital.

We have a total of 70 kids ranging in age from year 3 to year 7. All of them are exceptionally excited about being part of the Wakakirri team this year, as it proves to be even more exciting than the last. On this team we also have 3 wonderful year 10 students who do a tremendous amount to help keep the kids under control and also help create moves.

This year all the kids love the music we have decided to use, as it ranges from techno to boppy, and it’s also more modern music which they know.

Walkerville Primary School Story-Dance Seeing is one of the five senses. And loss of sight is the subject of our Wakakirri item. "The Gift of Sight" follows the story of a group of visually impaired children in a small African village. They struggle through life because they can't get proper treatment. Across the world, in Australia, a group of students have a sponsored "Read-a-thon" to raise funds so that people in Africa can have their sight restored by a simple operation. They send the money off to Africa and finally the struggling children can have their operation. When they come out of the surgery, the children see life differently. It is no longer difficult to see and now they can enjoy the things they have been missing because of their visual impairments. Walkerville Primary School is trying to recycle and re-use things as much as possible so some of the children are wearing black clothing that was bought when the school first competed in the Wakakirri in 2005. In addition, during our performance, big boards will be featured. These boards were the same boards featuring in our 2005 and 2006 performances.
Wavell Heights State Primary School Story-Dance It's a surprise!! This year we will be using recycled water and all our props will be reused from previous years!!
Waverley Christian College Story-Dance

Eli is working in his workshop on a life-sized wooden doll. Suddenly the doll comes to life, and begins walking around the workshop. Eli directs him to a door, leading out into the world of Wemmicks. Punchinello (the doll) sees Wemmicks come and start doing tricks. They all fail, but they keep trying. Punchinello admires that, and they become friends. Suddenly, in come the Star Wemmicks, who are good at tricks. They show off, and Punchinello wants to join them. They reject him, and walk off. Punchinello starts crying, but Lucia comes and makes him feel better. She points him in the direction of Eli’s workshop, and they go off to see him. Eli, Lucia and Punchinello show the Stars that being good at tricks isn’t everything, and show the Spots that they are special. The Spots and Stars go through the Ring of Acceptance and Friendship. They are shown that they are all special in different ways.

Wideview Public School Story-Dance Our school is telling a story about the ring around Saturn getting lost and the different planets we have to go to to find the pieces of this ring. At each planet we find different parts of the ring and at the end it all goes back together. We are using recycled lids and bottle tops for the robots costumes, and most of our cardboard props are being made from old voting boxes. Our backdrop is being painted over one which out school used some years ago.

Our space story is really coming together. All the dance groups came together for our first big practice. Three hours and sixty five kids - it was really loud and really fun. In a few weeks the back stage crew will practice with us. The mums are real busy making costumes. The robots are silver (of course) us guys from Saturn are bright orange, the aliens are green and the lollies are all different colours. Should be really great when we're all on stage for the finale.

Our teachers have a plan to make our space ship out of recycled drink cans - they're not sure yet exactly how, but. One of the mums has recycled her old blinds for the robot costumes, and they're getting bits and pieces from old computers to stick on to make them look more like robots. The lollies are using old cardboard boxes for parts of their costumes. Our backdrop will be re-painted over one we have used at school before.

Woodcroft Primary School Story-Dance Our story is showing the everyday life of kids in Australia and Iraq until a terrible war breaks out in Iraq and Australia wants to send troops over there but protesters come along and they say that it's not our war to fight. A husband leaves his children and wife and fights in the war and he dies. The piece shows how war is tough on families. We're going to use heaps of recycled stuff.
Worongary State School Story-Film Students in a school are visited by aliens from another planet. The aliens are concerned about what we are doing to our planet so they give us magical powers to speed up fixing things cos the adults aren't doing enough about global warming. We have planted trees and our classrooms are runing on half the lighting we used to use.

We have 4 year 7 classes making our film:
7LY has filmed a scene where they planted trees; 7LW made a scene where they saved water; 7FM Made a scene where they picked up rubbish; 7SM has filmed a scene where they meet John Howard.

The children are taking turns with filming and still photography. We even wrote a song called 'Carbon Cool Kids'. We even attempted blue screen with a blue sheet.

Yowie Bay Public School Story-Dance Our story is about a group of pirates searching for 3 treasure chests. They sail the seas in their search, encountering many obstacles like a boat of sailors. Alex (the main pirate) finds that her friends are held hostage and will only be set free if the treasure is returned. Alex chooses her friends over the treasure and fixes the ring of friendship.
