Wakakirri was happy to get a call from the Halls Creek community in the East Kimberley of WA about wanting to be a part of the festival this year. It is encouraging to know that the word is getting out to some of Australia’s most remote Indigenous communities about the great opportunities the program offers.  Our Halls Creek Festival will also incorporate the communities Warmun and Fitzroy Crossing.  Liz Warning, scriptwriting teacher and Suzanne Meli, Wakakirri Outback Manager are lucky enough to take the scenic  drive from Kununurra out to these communities to hold a week of scriptwriting workshops in May.  The students and teachers are excited to be part of this years festival.  Suzanne is looking forward to returning in September with a team of film facilitators to show these young budding filmmakers how to turn their ideas into a film. And, the kids from surrounding areas can’t wait to take their camping trip to Halls Creek where they will join the other students for lots of fun workshops and watch their film debut on the big screen on September 7.
